What is each of these types of binoculars good for?

Question by Giaffa Kri: What is each of these types of binoculars good for?
I've inherited 4 set of binoculars (plus one Mini), and just don't need FOUR! I was wondering what each of these specs tells you what it's best for (ie, wide range, long-distance close-up, etc). This is the information as copied from the binoculars themselves:

1)
Nikon Action
10x50 6.5 degrees
"Lookout IV"

2)
Canon
Image Stabilizer
15x45 15 degrees, 4.5 degrees 4D

3)
Bushnell
89x40 EWA
EW Angle
Field: 525 ft @ 1000 yds

4)
Canon
Image Stabilizer
All Weather
18x50 15 40 3.7 degrees

Also:
Mini Bushnell Power View
10x25
Ok, Jim.

I couldn't find a good spot for this query, and noticed another binocular question was in this section, hence posting here.

I'll try to figure out something else.

Thanks for your help.

  1. Theyre all good for the same thing. Viewing far off subjects and making them look closer.

Some of what you list have higher magnification than others. The Bushnell 89 has an 89x magnification. The Nikon10 only has a 10x magnification.

Some have larger lens diameters which may brighten your view by letting in more light. The Nikon10×50 has a 50mm dia lens and the Mini Busnnell10×25 has a 25mm lens dia.

Some have a wider field pf view. The Bushnell 525ft@1000 yds is about a 10 deg field of view (Extra Wide Angle – EWA). The Canon has only a 3.7 deg field of view.

The links below have more info which might help you choose which to keep based on your own needs.
