The better binoculars that I have seen are usually 7x, 10x, or 20x. A power of seven is plenty for most sporting events, 10x and 20x are really heavy, usually expensive, and good for some kinds of outdoor sports.
Field of vision is more important, the wider the better.
Lens coating can make a difference outdoors if there is sun glare.
