Question by SN: Doen anyone know if Canon is coming up with a newer version of the 18x50 IS binocular?
I am shopping for an IS binocular. Before investing should I wait for a newer model as the 18x50 is out there for a while.

I do not want to discourage you, but one thing you should think seriously about is how easy it is going to be to find your object in the field of view of such powerful binoculars. I have both 10x and 8x binoculars and with the 10x it is much more difficult to find the object I want to see in the field of view. 18x binoculars have a field of view of only 195 ft at 1000 yds. whereas 8x binoculars have a field of view of about 400 ft at 1000 yrds depending on the model and manufacturer. The greater magnification is a plus and Canon is a great company, but the greater magnification will not do you too much good if you can not find the object you are looking for. A decent pair of 8 x 40 binoculars will cost about 0 and a good spotting scope and tripod about 0 so you can have the best of both worlds for less than the Canon IS binoculars. And spotting scope come with up to 60x with an 80 mm scope.
However, Canon has a rebate on these binoculars currently and a double the rebate if you buy them with another Canon offering also with a rebate such as a Canon Camera or lense.
