Q&A: What does 10×32 mean in optics?

Im trying to buy my dad a pair of nice binoculars for hunting this christmas but, i don't seem to understand what the 10x32 means if somebody could tell me what the 10 and the 32 means that would be great and tell me what power is the best. THANK YOU

I believe it means that for every 10 feet in distatance it is magnified by 32 so it brings the view closer. This is just a guess!

10 x=magnification 32 =size of Lens in mm. 7×35mm with a wide field of view my preference. Higher magnification needs a steady rest. There are also variables which I now use.

This sounds like a fixed power, 10 is the magnification and 32 is the lens diameter, 32mm. A variable scope woud be something like 3×9x32. The magnification can be adjusted anywhere between 3 to 9 power.

10 power magnification (ten times closer than a normal view) with a 32 millimeter objective lens (the forward lens that gathers light).
