I prefer an 8 x 40 bino but that is my personal choice. The larger the first number (the magnification) the harder it will be to view a steady image in the lenses. The second number is the diameter of the glass and large will collect more light but also be heavier. You also get what you pay for - if you get a lot of glass for cheap then it is likely not going to be great quality.

I like my Nikon 8 x 40 Action Adventure binos. I have the extreme version but you dont have to get the waterproof pair. I think they can be had for around 65 (the non waterproof pair that is).

  1. I actually would not recommend either. Very powerful binoculars are subject to hand shake. Certainly 16x would be very bad. 10x is marginal. I do use 10x occasionally but I prefer 8x. Also 50 mm are really large. If you are going back country you will want a more compact and lighter pair. The site you have sighted does not offer the best selection of binoculars. You might want water proof binoculars also. You might run into inclement weather.

Can you purchase from a US vendor? If so here is a link to a pair that should meet your needs and then some.

These are reasonably light and compact. They are not the best one can buy but are possibly the best for the price. You will need to purchase a better neck strap for them.

Here is a much more compact pair. I once owned a pair like these but I dropped them and knock them out of alignment. You can not use these if you wear glasses. There is not enough eye relief.
